James M. ‘Jim’ Stevens, 86, of Sullivan, died 8:39 p.m. Tuesday (January 15, 2013) in his residence.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, with Pastor Dave Dolan officiating and military rites conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post # 68.. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association. Condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Jim was born August 6, 1926 in Sullivan, the son of Frank and Cordia Sutton Stevens. He had been an investigator for over 20 years for the Moultrie County States Attorney, a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post # 68, George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge # 764, the Royal Arch Masons, Bloomington Consistory and was a WWII veteran of the Naval Air Wing. He married Betty J. Nolen on August 22, 1947 in Windsor and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2005.
Surviving are his son, James L. (Suzanne) Stevens of Springfield; sister, Loretta Phillips of Sullivan; grandsons, Ryan Stevens of Chicago, Blake Stevens of Springfield and great grandson, Jackson Stevens of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank and sister, Evelyn Sides.
Jim was a devoted father and grandfather.
